Fresh money for FC Barcelona: The top Spanish club sold shares in a subsidiary and flushed 100 million euros into its accounts.

The Catalans sold 24.5 percent of the company “Barça Studios” to the platform “socios.com”. Socios makes money by first selling the cryptocurrency “Chiliz”, which fans can then use to buy and sell clubs’ fan tokens. The tokens are also a cryptocurrency.

Other big clubs like Juventus Turin, Paris St Germain and Manchester City also work with the platform.

TV rights sold to an investment fund

Most recently, the highly indebted FC Barcelona already had 25 percent of its La Liga TV rights for 25 years in the American investment fund Sixth Stsubmitted and thus raised around 400 million euros. Other sources even say that the sale brought in more than 500 million euros.

Barcelona urgently need capital to be able to register all newcomers before the start of the championship in mid-August, in compliance with the financial regulations. In August 2021, President Joan Laporta announced at a balance sheet press conference that FC Barcelona was indebted at 1.35 billion euros.

Expensive new arrivals

This summer, the five-time committed Champions League-Winner alongside Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, including Raphinha (LeedsUnited) and Jules Kounde (F.C Seville) for total packages of more than 50 million euros each.
