At the break, VfL Wolfsburg leads 1-0 against SC Freiburg. As expected, VfL took control from the start and never relinquished it. Even though the Wolves didn’t create many top-class chances, they were always superior in terms of play and always set the tone. Freiburg tried to defend themselves and were very compact defensively, but the Breisgau team couldn’t move forward at all and they had trouble getting into the final third of the attack. If Wolfsburg continues like this in the second half, nothing will stand in the way of reaching the quarter-finals.

The two teams have already met nine times in the DFB Cup and the results are unsurprisingly in favor of the Wolves. VfL defeated Freiburg eight times and SCF only won once. Today’s guests celebrated this victory in the quarter-finals of the 2004/05 season. The last encounter in the cup took place in the final in 2023 and back then Wolfsburg easily won 4-1. They last met in the Bundesliga in the second half of last season. However, there was no winner there and the score was 1-1.

After the defeat against Lyon, Stephan Lerch changed his starting eleven to five positions. Instead of Minge, Linder, Levels, Peddemors and Zicai, Lattwein, Wedemeyer, Judit Pujols, Bussy and Huth start. Vallotto is not available today due to an infection. SC Freiburg is currently in seventh place in the league with 16 points, in the middle of the table. The Breisgau women recently achieved a win in the league after losing three games in a row. A 2:3 defeat against newly promoted Nuremberg was followed by a 2:4 at RB Leipzig. Head coach Edmond Kapllani’s team was also unlucky against Hoffenheim and lost 2-1. The SC women recently regained their self-confidence against Leverkusen. The SCF fell behind, but Blumenberg equalized just three minutes later and shot her team to a narrow 2-1 victory shortly before the end. Freiburg also met a regional league team in the first round and easily reached the round of 16. The Freiburg team won 4-0 against Hannover 96.

Things have been going really well for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga so far and are in second place with 22 points, but are already six points behind FC Bayern. But the Wolves suffered defeats both in the league and most recently in the Champions League. After a narrow 2:3 against Eintracht Frankfurt, head coach Stephan Lerch’s team also admitted defeat in the premier class and lost 1:3 against OL Lyonnes. In the first round, the eleven-time cup winner cleared his opening hurdle without any problems. VfL easily beat the regional league team Buntentor 11-0.
