Mainz 05 is in the league of the UEFA Conference League. The team of coach Bo Henriksen dominated the second leg against Rosenborg Trondheim in their own stadium and clearly won.

The 1. FSV Mainz 05 may celebrate the league of the UEFA Conference League after a lavish football night in the Mainz arena. After the 1-2 defeat in the play-off first leg against the Norwegian record champion Rosenborg Trondheim, the Rheinhessen dominated the second leg against a sold-out backdrop.

Stefan Bell (28th minute) initially put the Mainz in the lead. After the goal by Dino Islamovic (33.), Jae-Sung Lee (43.) and Nelson Weiper (44.) met with a double strike before the break. In the second half, Nadiem Amiri increased to 4: 1 (57th) and it remained.

Nelson Weiper moves for Hollerbach

Due to the injury, Mainz coach Bo Henriksen had to change his team in a position compared to the last Bundesliga game against the 1st FC Köln: striker Nelson Weiper moved into the starting eleven for the injured newcomer Benedict Hollerbach. Just a few hours before the game kicked off, the 20-year-old Mainz owner had signed a new contract until 2029 and thus finally ended the discussions about a change of change.

Mainz 05 dominates the first half hour

The game started promising from Mainz. In the first ten minutes, the hosts came through Nelson Weiper dangerously close to the opposing goal a few times: after a corner by Paul Nebel, Weiper came to the header. This passed the gate of the guests to the right (8th). After 15 minutes it was Weip again, whose shot went past the goal from a good 16 meters.

Stefan Bell only with a lead with mistakes

At the latest now, the hosts had finally arrived in the game, dominated the action and were able to reward themselves in the 28th minute: First, Jae-Sung Lee failed after a cross from Anthony Caci on the Norwegian keeper Sander Tangvik, veteran Stefan Bell then scored the deserved Mainz lead.

But just a few minutes later, the goal scorer passed a misfortune in his own half: Bell struck the ball during a clarification campaign. His opponent Dino Islamovic subsequently had free rail and put the ball past hundredweight into the far corner for 1-1.

Mainz double strike before the break

The goal did not go past the hosts without a trace. The Henriksen team needed a few minutes to find back into the game rhythm, but then correctly: Dominik Kohr’s header on the post in the 42nd minute should be the starting signal for a Mainz offensive fireworks, because only a minute later Lee promoted the cross from Caci with a full headball for a new guide to the opposing grid. And the next Mainz attack also led to the goal. Lee had Amiri’s flank for Weiper, who pulled out of the center and confidently increased to 3: 1.

Rosenborg Trondheim gets no chance to get air

In the second half, the Bo Henriksen team seamlessly made the performance before the break and held the pressure on the Norwegian record champions. The guests from Trondheim could not go with the Mainz pace and the game increasingly took place in half of the Norwegians. After Phillipp Mwene only hit the outdoor network in the 54th minute, Nadiem Amiri did better three minutes later: his shot from 16 meters was still deflected and ended up unsustainable for 4: 1 in the goal of the guests.

With the clear leadership, the Mainzers also continued to play on the Trondheimer Tor and achieved chance for chance. Lee missed the 5: 1 a quarter of an hour before the end. After a mistake by the Trondheimer Keepers, he headed free -standing from a short distance past the empty gate. The Mainz then reduced their offensive efforts somewhat. The guests only came dangerously in the 87th minute in front of Mainz Tor. A shot from Rosenborgs Pereira was deflected and barely rustled past the left post. In the end, it remained from the Mainz’s point of view at the deserved 4: 1.
