24-year-old coaches the HFC

Saturday in Munich, Tuesday again in Halle – the appointment of the German Football Association (DFB) for the catch-up game had massively criticized VfL coach Daniel Scherning. His colleague André Meyer had completely different concerns. The HFC coach had seen the yellow and red card in injury time in the 1-1 draw against Havelse and had to sit in the stands. He was represented on the sidelines by the only 24-year-old Max Bergmann, who was actually responsible for video and data analysis for the Halle team who were threatened with relegation.

Klaas takes the first chance, Higl increases to 2:0

Bergmann’s match plan seemed to collapse after just over half an hour. Sebastian Klaas took his first chance when he converted a free-standing Marc Heider header from ten meters to make it 1-0 for Osnabrück and score his seventh goal of the season (31st). Five minutes later, VfL leveraged the HFC defense again on the right flank. Aaron Opoku passed precisely across the six-yard box, where it was easy for Felix Higl to push the ball over the line to make it 2-0 (36′). Philipp Kühn thwarted the possible goal of Halle. The hitherto unemployed VfL goalkeeper fended off a header from Elias Huth to a corner (39′).

Furious catch-up race by the HFC

After the break, VfL wanted to conserve their strength. But Halle hadn’t given up yet. At first, Niklas Kreuzer was denied a penalty when, under pressure from Florian Kleinhansl, he stumbled in a promising position in front of Kühn (57′). With anger in his stomach, the ex-Dresdner then sunk a template from Julian Guttau via the inside of the post into the VfL goal two minutes later. The first goal should inspire the hosts, but they were paralyzed a quarter of an hour later: Opoku, after a counterattack, passed flat into the middle, where Heider was lurking. When attempting to save, Niklas Landgraf maneuvered the ball into his own goal (73′). Philipp Zulechner brought the HFC closer again (84th). And a little later, Jan Shcherbakovski made it 3:3 (87th). In an open exchange of blows, both teams still had the opportunity to decide the game for themselves. In the end, however, the points were shared, which is not enough for both.

Minute of silence for Oberliga legend Streich

Before the kick-off there was a minute’s silence in the Leuna Chemie Stadium for the GDR record player Joachim Streich, who died last week and is a premier league legend who played for 1. FC Magdeburg in the Halle neighborhood for many years.
