football | 3rd league: Erzgebirge Aue collapses outnumbered by Viktoria Cologne

Status: 11/05/2022 4:06 p.m

FC Erzgebirge Aue lost 0:3 (0:0) at Viktoria Köln. The “Veilchen” were able to play at eye level for a long time in a game with few chances, but had to admit defeat against ripped-off Cologne after being sent off.

Missed pass alert at half-time one

Both teams started cautiously in the first half and mostly neutralized each other in midfield, mainly thanks to many bad passes. Only rarely did one of the teams make it to the goal and cause danger. Marvin Stefaniak had two of these rare opportunities, breaking through on the left flank and firing a long-range shot (28/35), but did not pose any problems for Viktoria keeper Ben Voll. On the other side, Simon Handle made an early impression with a side kick (10′) – but Martin Männel really had to intervene for the first time in the 33rd minute against André Becker, whose header headed for the bottom right corner. According to performance, the score was 0:0 at halftime.

The Auer glimmer of hope in the first half was called Marvin Stefaniak.

Red card brings the preliminary decision

Aue continued to try to disrupt early in the second half and was at least on par with the hosts – up to the 62nd minute. Sam Schreck went into the duel against Jamil Siebert with his leg stretched out and hit him clearly on the shin. One thing was clear for the referee: he dismissed the 23-year-old Auer with a red card.

Referee Lars Erbst dismissed Sam Schreck (Erzgebirge Aue) without much discussion.

Viktoria Cologne makes short work of it

After the red card, only the home side played and constricted Aue more and more in their own third with every minute. After Tom Baumgart lost the ball and a Cologne counterattack, Männel was able to parry Viktoria’s first shot, but Becker was spot on for the rebound and scored the goal to make it 1-0 for Cologne (73′). Just a few moments later, Männel was in the spotlight again. After a – quite hard – penalty whistle because of a handball by Ulrich Taffertshofer, the keeper had to play against Patrick Koronkiewicz. But the man from Cologne remained ripped off and slid in the penalty kick to make it 2-0 (75′).

Martin Männel chose the wrong corner for the penalty kick.

Aue also had little to report in the final phase and rarely got out of his own half. The final point of the game was Lankfort, who was allowed to insert a counterattack to make it 3-0 (90+1).

Red Lantern stays in the Ore Mountains

The Auer miss the liberation and stay bottom of the table. Due to the upcoming English week, the “Veilchen” are already expecting MSV Duisburg on Tuesday, November 8 (7 p.m.) in the Erzgebirge Stadium. Viktoria consolidates ninth place in the table and plays Dortmund II at the same time on November 8th.

Comments on the game:

Carsten Müller (coach Aue at Magenta sports): “I think we were in the game properly up to the red card. Then there are a few sticking points that ultimately we could no longer influence and that’s how the result comes about. But one thing won’t happen: we will definitely don’t stick your head in the sand.”

Olaf Janßen (Coach Cologne at Magenta sports): “Aue is not a normal bottom of the table, they have a very good team. I thought it was good that we kept calm, but didn’t go crazy and stuck to our skills.”
