The last mounting stage of this year’s Tour de France was on Friday. She had a lot of tension again.
Germany’s cycling hope Florian Lipowitz has third place on the 19th stage of the Tour de France and defended the white jersey of the best young driver. The 24-year-old took fourth place on the last Alpine stage and took away valuable time to his worst competitor Oscar Onley. Lipowitz is now 1:03 minutes in front of the fourth -placed British. The young Schwabe now has the best chance of standing on the podium in Paris on his first tour of France. As the last German cycling professional, Andreas Klöden, in 2006, had succeeded with second place.
Meanwhile, superstar Tadej Pogačar is facing his fourth tour triumph. The 26-year-old at the same time reached the goal behind the permanent rival Jonas Vingegaard in La Plagne. The defending champion from Slovenia is more than four minutes ahead of Vingegaard in the overall classification. The Dutchman Thymen Arensman secured the day victory with a two -second lead.
Due to the outbreak of an contagious cattle disease, the organizers of the France tour had shortened the heavy Alpine stage from Albertville to La Plagne and took the climb to the Saisies Col from the program. Instead of the originally planned 129.9 kilometers and 4,550 meters, the professionals only had to complete 93.1 kilometers and 3,250 meters of altitude.
After the last day in the Alps, a stage with hilly terrain is waiting for the cycling professionals on Saturday. Over 184.2 kilometers and 2,900 meters of altitude go from Nantua to Pontarlier near Switzerland. Under normal circumstances, the 20th and penultimate stage should not have any real influence on the overall rating. The tour ends on Sunday in Paris.
