The 40-year-old has been without a club since May 2022, when he gave up his place at VfL for Niko Kovac. Before that, he had averaged 1.14 points per game in 28 games with Lower Saxony and, after an interim negative series of ten games without a win, led Wolfsburg to 12th place in the Bundesliga. At Werder Bremen, Kohfeldt had previously managed 142 competitive games between 2017 and 2021 and was replaced there by Thomas Schaaf after matchday 33 of the 2020/21 relegation season.
According to the newspaper report, the native of Siegen is very popular with those responsible at Hertha’s US investor 777, as he stands for more offensive football than Dárdai and is also considered a coach who can develop young players in particular and lead them to top performances. The latter corresponds to the “Berlin way” proclaimed by the “old lady” with a view to the future. The line to 777 is due to Kohfeldt’s advisor Marc Kosicke, the newspaper continues, who acted as football advisor to ex-investor Lars Windhorst, who in turn later sold his shares in the Bundesliga club to the US company.

Kohfeldt to Hertha? TM community discusses controversy
Kohfeldt had already been traded on the Spree last summer, but in the end the decision to look for a trainer fell on Sandro Schwarz. Now the 40-year-old could become the face of Berlin’s rebuilding. Eight working papers are now expiring at Hertha Stand. According to the “Kicker”, all other professionals in the squad have valid contracts for the 2nd division, with an average salary loss of 40 percent. Nevertheless, there is a risk of a sell-out, since the financially troubled Berlin need transfer income and have to drastically reduce personnel costs.
In the TM community, the Kohfeldt personnel is already being discussed controversially. “I’m definitely a friend of second chances. But Kohfeldt had it in Wolfsburg. If there was a name of a proven promotion trainer, such as Breitenreiter, I’d still go with it. But cabbage field? What’s that supposed to mean? “Writes, for example, the user “Ruhleben” in the Hertha forum.
“Waldmeister49” takes a similar line: “Well, I’m quite frugal and patient and I put up with a lot, but if Kohfeldt seriously shows up here, my membership will be canceled on the same day. Not because I’m now hooked on Dárdai, but simply because I think Kohfeldt is a miserable and mercilessly overrated coach. A ‘Schnacker’ in front of the Lord. Can do everything, knows everything and is the best at everything anyway. Terrible!”
“El-Lindi” strikes a more moderate tone: “If these are the conditions to perhaps service our bond, then fire free. Definitely not the right person for me, but for me he’s not the blindest person that the majority thinks he is either.”
