Floor Bremer defends the articles that places her own RTL News about Suzan & Freek, and the terrible disease that makes him hit. “If you don’t want to read it, you’re also free at that.”

The metastatic lung cancer from Freek Rikkerink (32) provides a shock, because half of the duo Suzan & Freek are still so incredibly young and also lives healthy. Really all media, up to the eight -hour news, pay a lot of attention to it, because this lives enormously with the people in the country. Moreover: how can it be that he has lung cancer?

“Is it appropriate?”

Media such as De Telegraaf, NOS and RTL News answer that question in long articles, in which oncologists explain how you as a young and healthy person can still get lung cancer. “We are talking about it, because everyone gets a little bit a bit through it, because of that news,” says Renze Klamer In his talk show on RTL 4.

He continues: “You immediately see articles of it: why is it that you can get so young lung cancer? Then I sometimes think: is that completely appropriate? But I understand that everyone might be with that question. What do you think?”

Young guest

News from the day presenter Malou Petter is sitting at the table with him and understands all those articles. “I find it difficult. I didn’t know him, but the image I had from him: it’s a young guest, very sporty, was still jumping on such a stage this weekend.”

She continues: “I also thought of it for a moment: is it possible? That you are so young and healthy and suddenly have lung cancer in a very advanced stage. That you then read articles about how often that happens, I think people do need it, because you may have the fear that it happens.”

Floor responds

Renze also puts the question to Floor Bremer, star journalist from RTL Nieuws. “RTL News does it too, the NOS too, the Ad. Actually all the big media. But I also see in the reactions online that people say: I find that inappropriate or wait a bit with it. What do you think of it, Floor?”

Floor on that: “Of course it came as a shock for everyone and then you start thinking: Hey, how is that? With RTL News it is so … Many people had it, so we just put it into a journalistic question that we are going to look for and then you get an article from: can it happen at a young age and how then?”

Method

That is very common to do, says Floor. “That you will provide extra information about that. That’s just how we tackle that at the RTL News.”

Renze: “Yes, you provide information that people need.”

You don’t have to read it either, Floor continues. “Yes, exactly, and if you don’t want to read it, you are of course completely free in it.”

Terrible

Anna Gimbrère joins the other ladies. She says: “I actually agree with that. If many people have that question, then it is up to that kind of platforms to ensure that people get that question answered. Of course it does not detract from the sadness, in my opinion, that you are looking for answers to that.”

Floor: “Yes, it is a terrible announcement that you do and this is an extra article that we add.”
