Will we see Floor Bremer sitting at the bar of Today Inside when the program returns to RTL? TV critic Victor Vlam doesn’t see it happening. “That really is a huge mismatch.”

It seems that the RTL door is no longer closed to the men of Today Inside now that the politically correct Peter van der Vorst has left as television boss. His successor is Peter Lubbers, who, as former director of RTL 7, worked for years with Wilfred Genee, René van der Gijp and Johan Derksen. Is he interested in the trio?

‘Not to RTL’

The VI gentlemen are approaching the end of their contract with Talpa, so Peter Lubbers could give it a try. “Are they going to RTL? I can give you the redeeming answer: no, they are not,” says TV critic Victor Vlam in the podcast Victor Indicates TV. “That’s not something I take seriously for a single moment.”

Why not? “RTL simply has no reason to make them an offer and they have no reason to accept any offer. RTL has nothing to offer VI that SBS can also offer them. You would say that RTL can offer them more money. Well, maybe.”

Moving along

In theory, RTL can offer so much money that it can no longer be recouped. “But I don’t see that happening anytime soon, because the main question is whether it will be as great a success on RTL as on SBS. It will probably still be well watched and it has a loyal audience. They will certainly move along.”

But, Victor says: “The fact is that it fits much less well into RTL’s programming. SBS is now actually built around VI with programs such as De Oranjezondag and Nieuws van de Dag. Well, there are all kinds of other more right-wing programs and right-wing people that you see popping up at SBS. It is a warm bath. RTL is not that.”

Floor Bremer

This means that the chance of success is simply a bit smaller at RTL, according to Victor. “In addition, there are disadvantages, because if you go to RTL, you also lose part of your supporting cast, so people like Merel, Raymond and Thomas. They have contracts with Talpa and you have to leave them behind. So you have to recruit new people.”

“RTL Nieuws is probably not interested in their people being allowed to sit at the bar there. The question is whether that clicks in all cases. If, for example, Floor Bremer suddenly sits there at the bar to explain politics, yes… I suspect that will be a bit of a mismatch. Is it wise to go to RTL? No, I don’t think so.”
