On Sunday there are again problems with understaffing at Ryanair-handler Skytanking at Eindhoven Airport. As a result, mainly departing flights from Ryanair have to deal with a delay on Sunday.
A spokesperson for the airport cannot yet say how much the delays can rise and how long the problems persist. “The responsibility to inform travelers on the spot lies with Skytanking itself. We, however,, as an airport, report which flights are all delayed.”
Especially departing flights
The spokesperson said earlier that incoming flights have also been delayed. “But in the meantime that it is mainly the departing flights that are delayed,” he explains around half past two in the afternoon.
The airport still takes into account that departing flights will also have to deal with delays. “There are just too few hands. The employees of Skytanking who are there do do their smelly best and are repaid later today by a new team.”
Headache file
Skytanking is a real headache file at the airport. The problems are due to structural understaffing and have been playing since April last year. Then Ryanair changed from handlinger and Skytaking became responsible for the luggage handling.
For Eindhoven Airport, the results of an FNV study recently had reason to talk to Skytanking. Last year, Skytanking already received a warning from the Labor Inspectorate, Omroep Brabant then revealed.
An employee of Skytanking told anonymous about the workload in July. “You are sometimes responsible for an entire plane on your own. Then you want to work as quickly as possible, because otherwise you feel guilty that people go on vacation later.”
The workload would also have consequences for safety. “A colleague of mine was not trained to drive a staircase, but still had to do this from a manager. If he had caused an accident, he would not be insured.”
