Flemish Sonja has to take shelter in Florida for hurricane Ian: “Fortunately, the houses here are equipped for a large hurricane”

Sonja Gevaerts lives in Fort Myers, right on the path of Hurricane Ian. VTM NIEUWS can call her just before the hurricane makes landfall, when the first gusts of wind have already started. The windows of Sonja’s house have special shutters to protect them from the hurricane force. Still, it remains to be seen, because Hurricane Ian could be the strongest hurricane Florida has ever experienced. “We’re going to go upstairs in the bathroom, away from all windows so that nothing can happen,” said Sonja.
