Flanders starts conflict of interest against new flight routes Brussels Airport | Domestic

The residents of the municipalities in the northern Flemish Rand have experienced more noise pollution from aircraft flying over in recent days. According to Walter Vansteenkiste, mayor of Wemmel and chairman of the airport region platform, new flight routes will be in effect from October 5.

The Flemish government had the Environment Department investigate whether there has been a shift in noise pollution. The Department noted that the flight routes have been shifting towards Flanders since the adjustments at the beginning of October. The north and northwest of the Flemish Rand in particular are more affected, to the benefit of the Brussels Capital Region. The shift applies to both day and night flights.

The government has therefore decided to invoke a conflict of interest with the Consultation Committee.
