The collection of textile waste in Flanders continues to increase. In 2022, an average of 6.22 kg of textiles was collected per inhabitant, in 2023 this increased to 6.57 kg and in 2024 even to 6.86 kg. Sales of second-hand clothing in thrift stores also boomed, with an increase of 32 percent. Yet cheap ‘fast fashion’ products cast a shadow over this positive trend.
