Fixed transfer? Insider unpacks BVB’s chances with Jadon Sancho

Borussia Dortmund have secured the services of Jadon Sancho on loan until the end of the season. However, BVB does not have a purchase option for the “prodigal son” – and can apparently still have small hopes for a longer-term cooperation.

“Staying beyond the summer is definitely an issue,” explained “Sky” reporter Patrick Berger, who has been closely following Borussia for years.

But this “depends on several factors,” said the insider. Sancho’s salary at Manchester United is “exorbitantly high, at over 20 million euros”. This also applies to the transfer fee, “if he performs properly. BVB knows: Then he will be really expensive.”

Sports director Sebastian Kehl recently rated Dortmund’s chances with Sancho on “Sky90” as “not incredibly great”.

“Manchester United paid over 85 million euros for this player two and a half years ago and there was now no way to get a purchase option in any way that was economically feasible for us,” explained the long-time BVB captain.

Kehl added: “If the player develops the way we hope, then completely different clubs will be active in the summer and then he will probably be a category of player that will probably be difficult for Borussia Dortmund to realize on this scale .”

Strong debut from Jadon Sancho at BVB

BVB completed Sancho’s return after lengthy negotiations with United last week.

The 23-year-old Englishman was in the squad for the Bundesliga restart at Darmstadt 98 (3-0) and, as a substitute, contributed the assist to Marco Reus’s 2-0 win.

“He’s a difference player,” the former BVB captain enthused about his teammate on “Sky” after the game. “I really enjoy playing with him – just like back then. I was very, very happy that he found his way back to us.”
