Five years in prison demanded against Emmenaar (20) for home robbery

According to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), two 20-year-old men from Emmen and Groningen were guilty of theft with violence on October 20 at a house in Groningen. Prison sentences of five and four years have been demanded against them.

The two called at a house to buy a PlayStation. The perpetrators ran off without paying and left the resident injured. The victim had a stab wound to his liver and required emergency surgery. The PlayStation was offered for sale via Marktplaats. The agents found out the identity of the Groningen man via that platform and telephone data. That man was arrested in January. He confessed to his role in the robbery.

Through conversations that the man had with the co-defendant from prison, the Emmenaar also came into the picture. That man was arrested in April. The public prosecutor took it seriously that the robbery took place in the victim’s home. “A place where you should feel safe.”

The victim has a significant scar from the incident. He asked for damages of more than 16,000 euros, which according to the prosecutor should be awarded.

The Groningen man was also on trial for marketplace fraud. He offered a photo camera and received an amount of almost 160 euros from a buyer from Amsterdam. The camera was never delivered.

The court will rule in two weeks.
