The fishing derby between FC Volendam and Telstar is scheduled for Sunday. NH Sport made an alternative preview with the Volendam fishmonger Henk Koning and Tim van Zeben of the Noordzeevis foundation from IJmuiden.

“I think it will be a historic match. FC Volendam will become champion and promote. Then it will be the last time we play the fishermen’s derby. I don’t see Telstar getting promoted”, the King from Volendam is clear.

In IJmuiden they think very differently about this. “It will be 5-0 for Telstar,” said Van Zeben from IJmuiden. The two men do not agree on the result. What they also do not agree on is who has the tastiest fish. Are they the people of Volendam or the people of IJmuiden? “Is that a rhetorical question? They don’t even have a fish auction in Volendam,” says Van Zeben.

“It is not only the way in which it is caught, but also how you handle the fish. Volendam people are much better at that,” Koning counters.
On Sunday at 12.15 pm Telstar will resume the competition in and against Volendam. NH Sport will of course be present.
