The eight parts – each larger than a football field – have been under water since April, with ballast tanks. Those tanks are now pumped empty, which increases the first element to the surface. Cables hold it in a controlled place. Only the roof plate ultimately remains visible above water.
After driving up, a journey of more than 100 kilometers follows, with stops in Zeebrugge and Terneuzen. The tunnel gets two tubes for car traffic, a escape cooker and a bicycle cooker and forms a key point in the Oosterweel connection
