First mass start at World Cup ends with third place for Irene Schouten

Irene Schouten failed to win the mass start during the World Cup in Stavanger. In the Norwegian city, the Hoogkarspel skater finished third, behind Ivanie Blondin and Marijke Groenewoud.

In the sprint after sixteen laps Blondin turned out to be the strongest. The Canadian skaters made a change of pace, which broke the peloton into pieces. Groenewoud was in the leading group and Schouten had to close the gap. The next plan was for Schouten to lead the sprint for Groenewoud, but in the last corner Blondin overtook the Dutch.

The World Cup in Heerenveen is scheduled for next week.
