The first votes for the House of Representatives elections were cast in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday in the municipalities of Arnhem, Castricum and Zwolle. In Arnhem, people could cast their votes in Museum Arnhem. Local mayor Ahmed Marcouch was also present to vote and to speak to young people “about voting and its impact,” writes the ANP news agency.
The polling station is open until 2 a.m. According to Marcouch, the event was a success, with an attendance of around 700 young people. “We now actually have 700 ambassadors who can tell others about voting,” said Marcouch.
In Castricum, Captain Rommel’s Garden was open for an hour from midnight so that people could vote. At least dozens of people would have done that. Among them Jan Paternotte, number two on the D66 list.
In Zwolle, local mayor Peter Snijders, among others, has already voted at night in student café Het Vliegende Paard. The polling station was open there for an hour and a half from midnight.
