Miguel Gheysens, councilor of Ypres Youth: “This morning bombs were thrown and some fireworks were set off. But it was a group of young people who are not affiliated with a youth association. They actually ruined things for everyone else who meant well and wanted to make it a great day. A shame.”
A dangerous trend, according to the city, which is considering introducing stricter police controls at such events again. “I fear that this is the impetus to start the 100 days in this way. But we will do everything we can as a city council to nip this in the bud, together with the youth service. The 100 days should be a great moment for our youth.”
