The fire at a metal processor on Charles Darwinstraat in Emmen has been extinguished, reports the Drenthe Safety Region this morning.

A bump with scrap caught fire. With several forces, an attempt was made to extinguish the fire. Due to possibly hazardous substances in the smoke, an NL-Alert was sent. Measurements have not shown hazardous substances.

Extinguishing the fire took hours. The fire has not expanded. The burning metal was stored between large concrete lego blocks.

The smoke headed for Nieuw-Dordrecht. The Drenthe Safety Region has sent an NL Alert in which people are called upon to close windows and doors and to stay out of the smoke. The safety region announced around 11.30 pm that the wind had turned and that the smoke went more towards the northeast.
