Three employees of the Antoniushof nursing home on Vredesplein in Waalwijk suffered smoke inhalation during a fire on Friday afternoon. The fire raged on the balcony of an apartment on the fourth floor. The employees were taken to hospital.
The fire started around ten to three, probably in a cushion, and then spread to the frame. Nursing home staff immediately tried to extinguish the fire, which partly succeeded. Because it was a nursing home, the fire brigade immediately scaled up.
The fire brigade came to the care home with three tankers and an aerial platform. The police also responded with several units, together with two ambulances.
The fire brigade extensively ventilated the building because the smoke had spread over several floors. After the smoke cleared, residents were allowed to return to their rooms. Only the apartment where the fire raged has not yet been released.
The mayor of Waalwijk also came to the care home.
