F.IRE OF LOVE

Katia Krafft and one of the beloved volcanoes in Sara Dosa’s film (photo Image’Est).

«That between me, Katia and the volcanoes is a love story». These are the words with which the film ends and pronounced by Katia’s husband, Maurice Krafft, the other part of a couple of volcanologists who for twenty-five years traveled the world to document eruptions and lava explosions.

A gigantic material, largely unpublished since the couple died in 1991, killed by the eruption of Mount Unzen in Japanand that the American documentarian Sara Dosa was able to use to offer us the extraordinary portrait of an unconventional love together with the object of their passion.

«Curiosity is stronger than fear» say Katia and Maurice and in front of certain images, where the lava seems to come to life before our eyes, breathe and grow, the reasons for their passion jump to the eye with the force of evidence.

Accompanied by the voice of Miranda July who explains and integrates (with due respect) the materials left by the two volcanologists, the film thus becomes an opportunity to meet two exceptional personalities but above all to experience the charm of that “sublime beauty” in front of which we would not want to take our eyes off despite the thrill of the risks that comes with it.

For those who want to discover the (contagious) beauty of volcanoes.
