A big fire broke out in a dry cleaner on Nieuwstraat in Son on Thursday evening around a quarter past seven. The fire brigade pulled out en masse to fight the fire. Because the business is in the middle of the village center, it attracted a lot of attention. The surrounding buildings and apartments above had to be evacuated. The dry cleaner was completely lost and the damage with surrounding spaces and buildings is great.
Shortly after the first extinguishing vehicle arrived, the fire brigade scaled up to a large fire. In the end, three tanker sprayers and also a platform from the fire brigade from Eindhoven were deployed.
The fire in the dry cleaner would have been created in a meter cupboard. According to the fire brigade there was a gas fire and it was possible to close the gas. Then the fire was the master around eight. It is unclear whether there were people in the retail space.
Surrounding buildings
There are apartments above the dry cleaner and adjacent barber shop. They were both evacuated during the fire. The residents probably can’t go back to their house because of the smoke and soot damage.
As a precaution, the police have also evacuated a store and an apartments above the left side of the dry cleaner, but this building is not directly adjacent to the dry cleaner. These people could return home safely on Thursday.
