Fire destroyed restaurant with banquet hall of dilapidated holiday resort Ten Bel on Tenerife | Abroad

On Wednesday early morning, the fire broke out in the leisure complex in the municipality of Arona, Spanish media report. The extinguishing work took five hours.

The fire service was able to prevent the flames from reaching the neighboring Alborada hotel, the only active accommodation in the complex.

The local police of Arona and the Guardia Civil also went to the scene. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.

This is already the second fire in a short time in the old tourist complex in the south of the island, after the flames destroyed part of the main park last summer.

In its heyday, Ten Bel, short for Tenerife Belgium, was a bustling holiday resort where hundreds of thousands of tourists enjoyed the sun, sea and beach. Last year, our reporter observed on site how badly the resort is in decline. “It’s more like the setting of an apocalyptic movie.”
