Fire again in Staaken’s high-rise district

By Dirk Boettger

There was a fire in Staaken on Sunday night. Fires have repeatedly been set in the high-rise settlement in recent years. There were also fires in Neukölln and Mitte at the weekend.

At around 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, residents on Maulbeerallee in the Staaken district of Spandau were jolted out of their sleep when two places in the basement of the 7-storey residential building caught fire.

The fire brigade was on site with 40 firefighters and quickly had the fire under control. Six people were treated by the emergency services, one of whom had to be taken to a clinic. Afterwards, the stairways had to be ventilated to eliminate toxic smoke gases.

A fire commissioner is investigating, and arson is currently being assumed again. The high-rise settlement has repeatedly been hit by one or more arsonists in recent years.

It’s also on fire again in the Neukölln residential complex

On the same night, the fire brigade in Neukölln responded to a fire in Treptower Straße at around 12:30 a.m. There, a junction box caught fire in an empty apartment.

The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire quickly, nobody was injured. The fire brigade was on site with almost forty firefighters.

The police are investigating the cause of the fire, and a technical defect cannot be ruled out. It was only last night that there was a fire on Treptower Strasse, but it is unclear whether there is a connection. Treptower Strasse was closed for at least an hour.
