The summer party season started with last weekend’s graduation party.

Top chef Henri Alen told Iltalehti’s story about his favorite and disliked offerings. At the same time, we asked the readers’ opinion.

By far, the party offering that arouses the most disapproval and even disgust is the sandwich cake.

This traditional savory delicacy, which has been a staple of many parties for decades, divides opinion fiercely. Although, like Henri Alén, many Finns swear by it, for others it is an absolute no.

IL readers found many problems with the sandwich cake, such as composition, taste and hygiene.

– Sandwich cake is an absolute abomination. Just seeing one makes you skip the serving table. There’s no way we’re going to have one for the party, Kolmen’s mother states.

– There are at least three people in our family who HATE sandwich cakes. I know – these feelings are related to something with the first tastings, but you just can’t get rid of that feeling. I personally serve guests salty pies with different fillings (ham, minced meat, smoked fish) in small pieces. And very good. – Well, I think the age-old sandwich cake could be left out. A sandwich as a sandwich and a cake as a cake, Ninni N hopes.

– Sandwich cake. It’s always a surprise what’s hidden there and what kind of stomach disease you get from it. The composition is as if it had already been chewed once. These are not exciting either

But Finns have other dislikes than the classic party sandwich cake.

The store’s meatballs, small breads, ready-made cookies also arouse disapproval, and salads also get their share.

– Mozzarella cherry tomato sticks. Mozzarella is used too much anyway. Princess jackets and bracelets for children, says Pepi.

– Spoon breads and other old-fashioned cookies, which in the end no one even eats, Rita says.

– Ready-made biscuits, especially some Jaffa biscuits or Fasupalas. It’s not festive at all and is more suitable as an emergency if you want to put something on the table with your coffee. Preferably not even then. The basic bun is also pretty tough. The bun must be freshly baked and preferably with ear wood. At parties, there is rarely a bun that is completely fresh from the oven, HK regrets.

– Filled cakes with some sort of vegetable fat cream. A real cream cake, please, Jantsu hopes.

– Shop meatballs. I was at a funeral where vegetable puree soup was served with store-bought meatballs on the side. The funeral meal was left uneaten. I would have liked some sandwiches, because I was hungry, the nickname Aika good chef is annoying.

– Sandwich cakes are the biggest dislike of all: salty pies, macaroni salads, salads with mixed salad dressing or onions, olives, lists Maria.
