Technology giant Microsoft has claimed Russian state-backed hackers have attacked several countries allied with Ukraine, Sky News and CNN reported.

According to Microsoft, hackers have recently carried out various cyber espionage operations in the United States, Poland, the Baltic countries, Denmark, Norway, and Finland and Sweden, which are applying for NATO membership.

Investigators have allegedly tracked down a number of cyber-attacks on Ukrainian communities, which have led to attacks in 42 countries outside Ukraine.

– The cyber aspects of the current war extend far beyond Ukraine and reflect the unique nature of cyberspace, Microsoft CEO Brad Smith described in the company’s report.

According to Microsoft, 29 percent of hacking attempts, or less than a third, have succeeded in penetrating the defense. Hacking attempts that have passed through protection have led to data theft in one in four cases.

However, it is difficult to assess the overall picture of the success or scale of companies. Microsoft has looked at its own cloud services in a survey.

The Russian embassy in Washington has so far not responded to Sky News’ request for comment on the subject.
