Almost one in three drivers does not keep enough distance from the vehicle in front on the highway and is therefore a tailgater. These drivers cause a thousand accidents every year, resulting in pile-ups and traffic jams. The new highway code sets the safe distance and tailgaters will also be fined from 2025.
