• The project, which includes roads in Còrsega, Rosselló and Freser, will add 2.3 kilometers to the cycling network, eliminate car lanes and close to 200 parking spaces

  • The project is already on public display to be able to call the contest worth 1.2 million euros and five months of works

One of the major bike obstacles in Barcelona (apart from robberies) is the unsafety. The fact that the cycling itinerary network does not have continuity in many cases requires turn to the road, and that is something that discourages the commitment to sustainable mobility. That is why the network of bike lanes is growing in places that help sew more and better this type of movement on pedals An example of this is the cyclable road of the promenade of Maragalla project that the council has just put to public exposure with the idea of convening the contest and be able to start the work as soon as possible. In addition to eliminating traffic lanes, the forecast is that nearly 200 parking spaces will also be lost.

The new lane will be born in Rosselló with Castillejos, it will go up through Freser and will reach Paseo Maragall to finish at the intersection with Calle de Olesa. In Rosselló, the road, 400 meters long, segregated and unidirectional, replaces a service cordon, which will be maintained but eliminating a traffic lane. In Freser, the sidewalk is widened 90 centimeters and a 350 meter long cycle path and two meters wide. In Maragall is where the most important change will take place. A cycle lane will be added on each hillside, which will eliminate a lane for private vehicles in each direction. All this framework also includes a new 130 meter long cycle lane in Còrsega. In this section, in addition, a bus lane will be added and a car lane and a service lane will be eliminated.
