Fight in quarantine: Hertha is preparing for Plan B

Berlin (AP) – Bundesliga soccer club Hertha BSC is traveling to SpVgg Greuther Fürth with major personnel worries in defense. In addition to Dedryck Boyata and Marton Dardai, Marc Oliver Kempf will probably also be out after a corona infection.

“We have prepared for Marc’s failure, but he could still be tested on Saturday,” said Hertha coach Tayfun Korkut before the game at the bottom of the table. However, the condition of the newcomer decides whether it makes any sense to let the 27-year-old come on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky).

However, Korkut points to several alternatives. On the one hand, young professional Linus Gechter could fill in the part next to the remaining central defender Niklas Stark. The 17-year-old has already shown good games, including against FC Bayern Munich despite the heavy home defeat. “We have no problem throwing him in at all,” said Korkut. During the week, the 47-year-old also played full-back Marvin Plattenhardt and midfielder Lucas Tousart in central defense in team training.

Korkut goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow, whose error in the 1-1 draw against VfL Bochum last weekend prevented a possible win, is not a cause for concern. “We’ll see a good game from Alex this weekend,” Korkut said optimistically. However, the possible substitutes Rune Jarstein, Oliver Christensen and Nils Körber are not yet available, so 20-year-old Marcel Lotka will be back on the bench.
