The Bremerhaven team also couldn’t end Straubinger’s winning streak in the DEL. They lost 3-1 in the ice arena on Wednesday evening.
The Pinguins quickly fell behind: Tyler Madden gave the Straubingers, who had started their journey to Bremerhaven with six wins in a row, a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute. Miha Verlic equalized in the 17th minute. The Slovenian was also successful in the 3-1 win at Eisbären Berlin on Sunday.
In the second period, Bremerhaven were unable to use their power play to make it 2-1 during the five-minute penalty for Zachary James Leslie or the two-minute penalty for Tim Brunnhuber. Instead, the Penguins were behind again after Alex Green’s goal (37th). They were unable to equalize again. Madden made the decision (3:1) with his goal to make it 3:1.
What is bitter for the Bremerhaven team is that at the same time the Eisbären Berlin won their game against the Dresden Eislöwen as expected (5:2). The Dresden team has already been relegated. The lead over 7th place, which the Berliners occupy, has now reduced to one point. The Penguins have to defend 6th place to avoid the pre-play-offs.
