Fight Club, Courtney Love: Fired for an argument with Brad Pitt

feight Club was one of the cult of the nineties, and in addition to Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, Courtney Love should have been part of it too. Why then the leader of the Hole is not present in the film by David Fincher? According to Courtney, interviewed by Marc Maron for the podcast WTF, Pitt’s fault. But let’s see how.

Courtney Love fired by Fight Club

The 58-year-old singer said she was fired afterwards a fight with Brad Pitt over another film. In fact, the actor would have wanted to interpret at all costs Kurt Cobain, husband of Courtney Love and leader of Nirvana dramatically passed away in 1994 at the age of 27, in a film by Gus Van Sant.

The film, titled Last Dayswas then actually filmed, but starring another Pitt, Michael (who has no relation to Brad, ed) and with a different plot from the one originally submitted to her.

The fight with Brad Pitt

In the podcast, Love says that when faced with Brad’s request «I got furious. I wasn’t going to let Brad play Kurt. Who the hell did he think he was?».

And so the answer was clear: «I said to Brad Pitt: I don’t know if I trust you and I don’t know if your films are for profit. They’re really good social justice movies, but… if you can’t understand me, you kind of can’t understand Kurt either. And I don’t feel like letting him play that, Brad.” And at that point, according to the singer’s story, it arrived Brad Pitt’s revenge, which caused her to be removed from the cast of Fight Club. And the attempts of Edward Norton (who was dating her at the time) to get her readmitted were useless.

Denied by production

A story that however is denied by the production. Indeed, a source confirmed a variety which Courtney Love actually was called for an audition, but she was never offered the part which then belonged to Bonham Carter. “And you can’t get fired from a job you never got”, remarks the source, pointing out that “it is known that the roles are decided by the director, and not by the other actors”.
