TBV Lemgo Lippe continued its successful streak in the handball Bundesliga and also beat the Rhein-Neckar Löwen.
The TBV won on Thursday evening in their own hall with 25:22 (13:12) and thus celebrated their fifth competitive game win in a row. Overall, the Lippers have been unbeaten for nine games and are in second place with a score of 15:3. The Rhein-Neckar Löwen, on the other hand, have been without a win for four games and are in seventh place with 10:8 points.
The best thrower of the game for Lemgo Lippe was Niels Versteijnen with eleven goals. Goalkeeper Christian Möstl excelled with 17 saves. Jannick Kohlbacher scored best for the Lions with six goals.
Balanced start
The game started evenly. In the first quarter of an hour neither team was able to break away with more than one goal. It was only after 20 minutes that Niels Versteijnen gave the TBV the lead for the first time with two goals (9:7). After that, there was an offensive lull for both teams before Jannik Kohlbacher equalized after 25 minutes to make it 9:9 for the guests.
But: That was to be the last goal for the Rhein-Neckar Löwen for more than ten minutes. In the five minutes before the break and the five minutes after the break, the TBV defense was tight. Even from seven meters nothing worked for the lions. The TBV didn’t set off any fireworks offensively either and made a lot of missed throws and mistakes. Nevertheless, Florian Kehrmann’s team led 15:9 after 36 minutes.
TBV extends its lead to eight goals
Sebastian Heymann then broke the spell for the Lions with his goal to make it 15:10. But the guests couldn’t find their way back into the game. Although Edwin Aspenbäck shortened the score to 15:11, the TBV didn’t allow the Lions to get any closer. Instead, the Lippers extended their lead to eight goals with a 5-1 run a quarter of an hour before the end (20:12).
In the final phase, the Rhein-Neckar Löwen tried again with a seventh player in attack. The TBV countered this with an additional attacker. Five minutes before the end, Löwen player Robert Timmermeister received a two-minute penalty, dashing all hopes of a comeback. Although the Lions showed morale and fought their way back to three goals, TBV’s victory was no longer in danger. However, there was still one downer: Shortly before the end, Lukas Hutecek had to leave the field with an ankle injury.
Medical emergency in the hall
In the final minute he moved sport but then completely into the background. Due to a medical emergency in the stands, the game had to be stopped for several minutes with 45 seconds left. When things could continue, the players simply let the last seconds pass.
The TBV continues on October 25th (8 p.m.) with an away game at MT Melsungen. The Rhein-Neckar Lions welcome TVB Stuttgart one day later (3 p.m.).
