FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund compete from Germany at the club World Cup. FIFA tries out innovations during the tournament.

When the club World Cup begins in the United States from June 14, FIFA uses the tournament not only for sporting competition, but also as a platform for technical innovations. The World Football Association presented several innovations on Friday that are to be used for the first time during the competition.

One of the most striking changes concerns the presentation of VAR decisions. In the future, spectators in the stadium will see exactly the scenes on the large screens, which the referee also looks at the monitor. So far, this was only possible on TV. The FIFA promises more transparency in intervents by the video assistant.

In addition, a camera is tested directly on the body of an referee at a FIFA tournament. This is to check whether the recordings improve the visual experience of the fans. The BodyCam images could be integrated into live broadcasts.

The semi -automatic offside technology is also being further developed. According to FIFA, it is a “advanced version” that works with several cameras, a sensor in the ball and artificial intelligence. The aim is to be able to make decisions faster.

Another innovation concerns the exchange processes. The teams receive a special tablet that, according to FIFA, should ensure better structure. This could be shown at a glance. The technology guarantees that everyone involved is “up to date”.
