The horrendous prices for World Cup tickets have recently attracted a lot of criticism. Now FIFA is accommodating fans and associations to some extent.

FIFA has introduced a new ticket category for the 2026 World Cup, offering loyal fans cheaper prices. These “basic tier” tickets are available for $60 (51 euros) per game, the world association announced on Tuesday. Tickets in this category are available for all 104 games, including the final.

Tickets will only be handed out to supporters of qualified teams. They are distributed via the national associations. In the case of the German national team, the German Football Association is responsible.

The DFB had previously criticized the prices of World Cup tickets. Managing director Andreas Rettig explained: “The World Cup is far away from Germany and a visit involves a lot of effort and high travel costs. That’s another reason why we would have liked cheaper tickets for our fans overall.” Fan organizations had also expressed criticism.

The new “Basic Rank” category makes up 10 percent of each association’s ticket quota. Together with the “budget range” category, which comprises 40 percent, 50 percent of the tickets are in the cheapest price categories. The remaining tickets are divided into the “standard tier” and “first tier” categories.

The demand for tickets for the tournament is enormous. Since the sales period began with the random drawing on December 11th, 20 million orders have already been received from 200 countries. In the ranking of countries with the greatest demand, Germany is directly behind the host nations USA, Canada and Mexico.

The German national team was drawn into World Cup Group E at the beginning of the month. They play Curaçao in Houston on June 14th, Ivory Coast in Toronto on June 20th and Ecuador in East Rutherford on June 25th.
