Fierce protests erupt in China against strict lockdowns | Abroad

The urban district has been under a strict lockdown since November 5 because the Chinese government wants to combat outbreaks of the corona virus. Haizhu is the epicenter of a new outbreak for health authorities. Throughout Guangzhou, a metropolis of nearly 20 million inhabitants, more than 5,000 new corona infections were diagnosed on Tuesday, almost all of them in people without symptoms of illness or weakness. But people are forced to stay at home. According to the South China Morning Post, the fierce protests against this were mainly the work of angry textile workers who are not from the area.

In China, protests are usually quickly crushed and recordings of them quickly removed. It is therefore not possible to determine exactly how many demonstrators have taken to the streets. According to eyewitnesses, the demonstrators in the streets were cheered by people in buildings along the streets, but the protests did not last long due to the rapid intervention of the police.
