The Hamburg optician chain Fielmann is pushing ahead with its international expansion and is building a new production and logistics site in the Czech Republic. The investment in Chomutov in the northwest of the country is estimated at 65 million euros. “Construction work is in progress and commissioning is planned for 2024,” announced Fielmann AG on Tuesday. “In the medium term, the Fielmann Group will create 500 new jobs at the location.”

According to the company, the new production and logistics facility covers an area of 37,000 square meters. The production there has a capacity of 2.5 million glasses per year and can be expanded to almost 5 million glasses in the long term. “Chomutov is part of an extensive investment program that will significantly expand and integrate our manufacturing and logistics capabilities,” the statement said. In addition to Chomutov, further logistics centers and further new production sites in Western and Southern Europe are planned throughout Europe. With this, Fielmann wants to serve the growing online business and the growing foreign markets.
