Fidan Ekiz continues to appear on commercial TV: ‘Away from NPO?’

Fidan Ekiz is on commercial television talk shows all the time. After the weekend she will appear again in Hélène Hendriks’s. “Would she like to switch to RTL or SBS?”

Op1 presenter Fidan Ekiz is on the payroll of WNL, but outside of that weekly job she does relatively little for the broadcaster. She does appear constantly elsewhere: until recently she was in HLF8 all the time, last week she was featured in Renze Klamer’s RTL talk show and on Mondays she is in Hélène Hendriks’ SBS show.

Play outside

Rob Goossens notices that even the woke documentary that Fidan recently made does not fall under the banner of WNL. “Then I think: yes, but why did you make it for BNNVARA in the first place? This is also possible at WNL, right? Then BNNVARA no longer wants him and then she switches to Omroep Max. Again no WNL,” he says in the BLVD Podcast.

He continues: “I find that very strange. Of course we know: Fidan is a very independent woman, so maybe she likes to play outside the door a bit. But that she is really just playing outside the door… Yes, then I am going to worry a bit about the relationship between WNL and Fidan.”

Shopping Fidan?

Luuk Ikink wonders whether Fidan might want to switch to RTL or SBS, where salaries are generally slightly higher. “Do you think she’s doing a little shopping? That she is looking around a bit like: where else could I make television? Perhaps with a commercial channel.”

Rob: “Yes, that’s hard to say. Look, she has much more to offer than what she does at Op1 anyway. De Nieuwe Maan alone, which of course was a talk show with a much smaller budget at a much less prestigious time, was actually more fun than how she is doing Op1 now. But she can do very little about that herself; the format is very tight.”

Look around

It wouldn’t surprise Rob if Fidan wants more. “Fidan is someone who doesn’t find one subject interesting at all and the other very much. So in that regard, yes, I understand that she is around… If it is indeed the case that she is looking around: where can I go?”

He continues: “But yes, I also heard from behind the scenes that she could have just taken over HLF8 when it still existed. That she then received a really nice offer, a really lucrative offer from Talpa. But then she said: yes, but that is not the intention, because then I will be busy five days a week and that cannot be combined with my child.”

‘WNL, intervene’

Luuk thinks WNL should intervene to make Fidan more comfortable. “I think it’s strange, because they also know who Fidan Ekiz is at WNL, that’s why I think they hired her and asked to do that talk show…”

He continues: “Why wouldn’t they just think: well you know what, we’re going to make that talk show in such a way that she feels comfortable in it and can get out of it completely? Because at the eve she could lose much more of herself than now at Op1.

Rob: “Yes, I completely agree with you.”
