AND It was a great party last night at the Teatro Alcione in Milan iO Donna celebrated its first 30 years: many friends of our newspaper did it with the editorial staff. Starting from the first editor of the weekly, Fiorenza Vallino. During the event, presented by the effervescent Giulia Piscina (a thirty-year-old DOC!), the short film was previewed Freezeproduced by OffiCine-IED with the artistic supervision of Silvio Soldini. The two leading actresses were present Valentina Romani and Celeste Dalla Porta: they are the faces of the double cover of the special issue of iO Donna, on newsstands on Saturday 28 March with the Corriere della Sera.
iO Donna’s 30th anniversary party
Saturday’s edition will be a record-breaking 614 pages, designed as a collector’s magazine. Urbano Cairo, president and CEO of RCS MediaGroup, explained this, recalling how fond he has been of our newspaper since the beginning of its history.
«It debuted on newsstands on March 23, 1996. It was the first weekly magazine followed by my then newborn dealership Cairo Advertising. Therefore, an absolutely unique relationship binds me to this weekly, capable of immediately establishing itself as a primary player on the editorial scene and confirming itself 30 years later as an authoritative point of reference for the readers of Corriere della Sera.”
Danda Santini: «Tonight we are all in our thirties»
Thirty years is not just an anniversary: it is a generation. Enough time to observe how customs, creativity, fashion and, above all, the role of women in society change. Our director Danda Santini reminded us of this, who explained the meaning of the theme of these celebrations, Being 30 today. «We dedicated our birthday to today’s thirty-year-olds, listening to the stories, reflections and testimonies of those who are entering the world now and are looking for their own space. It is them that we must look to if we want to understand tomorrow. Consistent with the mission of iO Donna, which since its origins has proposed itself as a space for dialogue and authoritative reflection.”
In this spirit, the director invited everyone present to play with words: “Which one describes your thirty years?”. A game played by the guests on stage but also, from table to table, by the dinner participants.

The Ditonellapiaga concert
At the end of the evening, Margherita Carducci, alias Ditonellapiaga, gave the guests a moment of great music: in a flaming red dress, she sang her most famous songs, namely Chimica and Che bother, with which she participated in Sanremo. But also a piano and vocal version of Questo che, a song by Meg of 99 Posse: a tribute to one of the first singer-songwriters and also to the 90s that saw the birth of iO Donna.
