General Manager ICL Europe Vincent Brugge announced by means of a written response that the company understands the worries of Noorderlingen. Bruges does repeat the measurement methods of the OD.
“Since the end of last year, the Environment Service has adjusted the measurement method for their own investigations. A major exceeding has since been overrun since then, according to ICL, this adjusted method is not correct.” According to measurements that have been carried out on behalf of ICL itself, according to the company there is no question of exceeding standard.
ICL will take some measures in the coming period that must limit odor nuisance and hydrochloric acid emissions. This includes a new filter and, in the long term, replacing the gas washer.
‘Unacceptable’
Earlier this week there was a conversation between ICL and two Amsterdam aldermen about the factory. “ICL has told what measures it will now take to prevent nuisance and the college has insisted on rapid actions by ICL,” says a spokesperson for the municipality. “Only by showing results can the recovery of trust in the fertilizer factory begin.” In the interview, the aldermen called the results from the most recent reports ‘unacceptable’.
