A new unique piece, a one-off, from Maranello. It is the Ferrari SP-8 that belongs to the company’s Special Projects program. The car, designed by the Ferrari style center directed by Flavio Manzoni, is a V8 car with a mid-rear engine which is based on the F8 Spider from which it inherits its layout, chassis and engine. The Ferrari SP-8 becomes part of the most exclusive segment of the range, which includes unique cars, first outlined and then created based on a customer’s requests.

motor

The name of the car naturally intends to celebrate the 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 with which it is equipped, one of the most awarded and loved engines in history which has won the International Engine of the Year award four consecutive times; but – being the customer originally from Taiwan – it is also aimed at underlining the auspicious meaning of the number eight in Chinese, which traditionally indicates success, luck and personal fulfillment. The essential technical data of the V8 of the F8 Spider speak of a displacement of 3,902 cc, a power of 720 HP at 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 770 Nm at 3,250 rpm.

pure roadster

The main peculiarity of the SP-8 lies in the absence of a roof, which makes it in all respects a two-seater roadster, accentuating its sporty character and its ability to excite both at the sight and when driving en plein air. Consequently, extensive aerodynamic refinement work was necessary through CFD simulations, wind tunnel tests and dynamic tests to guarantee a level of acoustic comfort and wind feeling completely comparable to that of the inspirational car.

volumes

The style theme of the car is represented by the crossing and interpenetration of volumes: the exposed carbon fiber front wraps around the rear creating a two-tone effect with a strong chromatic and material contrast. The elimination of the retractable hard roof has allowed a profound reshaping of the entire rear, which on the SP-8 has a full volume and a very taut center line. The two parts into which the volume is divided are connected by a functional central area, treated in matt black and including the air intakes on the side with separate inlets for the intercooler and engine intake. In its upper section, this strip acts as an evacuation vent from the engine compartment, with longitudinal elements that recall the slat pattern typical of various Ferraris of the past. On the front there is an imposing full-width monolithic grille, the mold of which was created using a 3D printing technique. Even in the front grill there is the same set of vertical slats, whose plan angle progressively increases outwards to better direct the flow towards the two front radiators. The angle of these elements was optimized thanks to the close collaboration between the Ferrari Style Center and the aerodynamics team who dedicated months to refining the car in CFD. Among the other parts of the SP-8 that have been redesigned, the headlights with specific mask and lens, the rear lights derived from Ferrari Roma, the redesigned windshield, the exhaust tailpipes treated in the same way as those of the 296 GTB and the specific wheels stand out. both in design and color (matt Nart Grey). The five-spoke directional wheels are exclusive to this car and represent a modern reinterpretation of the classic star-shaped wheels of the Ferrari Sports Prototypes, as well as of the F40. Their full overall appearance is expertly intertwined with deep modeling and large lightening perforations.

interior

In terms of interiors, the modification of the central console to house the F1 controls introduced in the Ferrari range from the SF90 Stradale onwards stands out. It was thus possible to add the gate, making it necessary to adapt it to the operating modes of this car. The picture is completed by the seats with specific mirrors in laser-cut Navy Blue Alcantara coupled with gradient-effect canvas, as well as the carpets in specific twill fabric with an iridescent effect. The matt Micalized Silver color, created specifically for the SP-8, combines perfectly with the carbon fiber section, whose texture and color are also specific (glossy Blue Sandstone with iridescent effect). The continuity color that links the two sections of the bodywork to each other was developed ad hoc and is called Dark Starry Blue. From November 16 to March 2024, the style model of the car will be visible at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello.
