The Italian fashion house Fendi, which belongs to the luxury goods group LVMH, has taken over one of its long-standing suppliers. On Tuesday, the company announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Italian knitwear specialist Maglificio Matisse. The textile manufacturer based in Sant’Egidio alla Vibrata has been one of Fendi’s main knitwear suppliers for 15 years and also works with other luxury brands, according to a statement.

“Together with the opening of the new Fendi factories for leather goods in Tuscany and shoes in the Marche region, this acquisition is further evidence of our fashion house’s commitment to ‘Made in Italy’ and strengthening its supply chain,” said Serge Brunschwig , the chairman and CEO of Fendi, in a statement.

Maglificio Matisse has all the necessary knitwear technologies and can cover all stages of production, Fendi said. This makes the company “a perfect example of a completely verticalised ‘Made in Italy’ company”. Through investments that have already been decided, Maglificio Matisse will further expand production capacities in the coming years. The management team, which comes from the ranks of the Scarpantonii founding family, will continue to run the company after the takeover.
