The first master decisions at the 2025 finals in Dresden have been made: the foil fencers of FC Tauberbischofsheim underpinned their exceptional position in the team competitions and secured the title in both women and men.
In the reissue of the previous year’s finals, Carlotta Sophie Morandi, Pia Ueltgesforth, Anne Kirsch and replacement woman Ella Gamke started at the start of the competitions on Thursday (July 31, 2025) in the duel of the two fencing high castles from Baden-Württemberg against TSG Weinheim (Celia Hohenaden, Luca Sara Holland-Cunz, Marie Höfler, Maja Kraft) after a long tight duel with 45:37.
Battles at eye level
Nine battles and a maximum of three minutes were on the program in the team competition. The goal: reach 45 points with hits on the fuselage and the neck protection. Tauberbischofsheim’s Morandi, who was used at the World Cup in Tbilisi a few days ago, and Höfler fought a balanced duel right from the start (4: 4). Weinheim was then able to work out a first lead before Kirsch against Hohenadel equalized again in the third fight (13:13). Replacement woman Gamke brought the defending champions into the lead shortly afterwards.
But it remained very scarce. The leadership changed constantly. In the seventh duel it was again the convincing Gamke, which for Tauberbischofsheim was 35:33. Teammate Kirsch used the tailwind and expanded the lead in the penultimate duel against Höfler to 40:34 – the preliminary decision. In the last battle against Holland-Cunz, Morandi finally removed the last doubts about the successful title defense.
Clear matter among men
The German flagship club in the fencing also moved the conditions after second place in the previous year. Luis Klein, Felix Klein, Paul Luca Faul and Bastian Kappus gave the final debutant TG Dörnigheim with Alexander Kahl, Moritz Frohwein, Tom-Florin Löhr and Tristan Förster little chance and thanks to a 45:31 made the double title perfect.
Tauberbischofsheim lived up to his role as favorite early. Luis Klein and Faul already landed in her first duels that were much better and ensured a comfortable 10: 4 lead. Kahl, German individual champion from the previous year, and Frohwein collected some confidence in their battles, but couldn’t change the 16:25 deficit from Dörnigheim’s perspective after five out of nine fights.
Because the catch -up from Löhr, who was able to shorten again in his duels against Felix and Luis Klein to seven points, was no more than a short straw fire, the superior victory for Tauberbischofsheim was never in danger.
