Femke Merel stuttered as a child and no longer dared to go to school, but subsequently became a Member of Parliament

One percent of the Dutch population stutters. That can have a huge impact on a person’s life, says Femke Merel van Kooten. As a child, she was bullied so much that she was threatened with a fire alarm gun. “It affects your life enormously,” she says on the eve of World Stuttering Day.
