Theater maker Femke Brinksma is the winner of the Drentse Talent Prize Culture. The 24-year-old from Uffelte is a theater maker, but also musician and performer. A national jury determined the winner of the Talent Prize.
“Femke works hard, is versatile and dares to tackle large themes with her own and suitable form. She does that in an impressive way,” the jury writes. Brinksma receives 2500 euros and a sculpture from Joke Holwerda.
The seed for her creative career is planted at Garage TDI in Assen. Recently she took a look there again, after she had not been there for five years. “Here I met theater for the first time. Then I found out that you could make theater as a job,” she laughs.
After high school in Hoogeveen, Brinksma studies music theater at Artez in Arnhem. In 2024 she will make the performance an approaching end. A performance about closing, saying goodbye and learning to live in a sense of finiteness. Through stories, singing and motion sensor-controlled music, Femke took the visitor into her research into everything that deteriorates. “I try to make abstract feelings concrete on the floor. The best compliment I can get from the audience is that I have been able to offer them comfort and that they feel seen.”
Marieke Schenk from Tynaarlo and Isabèl Usher from Assen were the other nominees for the price. They don’t go home empty -handed. They each receive 500 euros to develop further. The jury about Marieke Schenk: “An enthusiastic and energetic singer-songwriter who makes a strong impression with her songs.” And about Isabèl Usher, the jury says: “She has an accessible, beautiful and clear voice, with a pleasant tonation and rhythm in language. A self -assured power woman.”
The Drentse Talent Prize Culture was awarded for the 15th time this year. Femke Brinksma is now in a row with winners such as Tangarine, Okki Poortvliet and Rosa da Silva. The aim of the Talent Prize is to encourage the winner to develop, so that ultimately the talent will also be seen outside the provincial borders.
