Fem van Empel has decided to temporarily stop riding competitions. The 22-year-old cyclocross world champion from Den Dungen is struggling with mental problems and needs a break. “I’m going to focus on my recovery with the aim of coming back stronger.”
In a statement of her team Visma team | Lease A Bike says FEM that for years of races at a high level has had consequences for her mental well -being. “In recent years I have made an incredible journey, with three world and European titles at the highest level in cyclocross. This has requested a lot of dedication and daily commitment.”
“At the moment I am faced with a number of challenges. After consultation with the team, we have decided that a break of races is the best move for my mental health and well -being.”

Her team gives Brabantse all the time and space to recover. “We put her health first before she returns to the competition. We will continue to support her in this process and wish her a speedy recovery.”
