Looking up to teammates
“When you are young, it is just fun to experience,” continues the basketball star from Den Helder. “An example is Emese Hof, she plays for Prague (one of the best teams in Europe, ed.) and if you can train with her for a while, then you know what you have to do to get even better.”
The Dutch team has started the qualifying series for the European Championships in 2027. Slovenia is the opponent on Tuesday evening in a packed sports hall in Almere. “I heard that 1,800 tickets have been sold. It is the first time for me that I can play in the Netherlands in the big Dutch team, which only makes it more fun.”
Don’t think about Suns just yet
The focus will then be on Suns again, but Toornstra doesn’t want to think about that just yet. “We have to go to Zwolle again on Saturday, but that’s strange. I’m completely here for a while and that will all come later.”
The Dutch basketball team with Toornstra and Esther Fokke (Hoofddorp) and Maud Huijbens (Hilversum) from North Holland will play against Slovenia on Tuesday evening from 7:30 PM.
