The measure was taken for fear of the arrival of protesting farmers. “Farmers who want to demonstrate with their tractors in the city will be sent back and, if necessary, led elsewhere from the city boundary,” the municipality said.
A city spokesperson says the mayor issued the order after police “observed movements of farmers” towards the city. “They would be on their way to The Hague to disrupt public order. We cannot use that on Prinsjesdag, especially now that the public is allowed to be present again for the first time.”
