FC Volendam without Carel Eiting down against Kortrijk

The exhibition match against KV Kortrijk was lost by FC Volendam. It became 2-1 in Kortrijk for the Belgian opponent. The Palingboeren still took the lead, but eventually lost out.

Without the ‘sick’ captain Carel Eiting, FC Volendam got away well in the opening phase. Goalkeeper Mio Backhaus handed the ball right in to Bilal Messaoudi, but the attacker shot wide. Volendam was accurate in the subsequent attack. Derry John Murkin went down in the penalty area and Robert Mühren hit the penalty: 0-1.

Moments later he also had the second goal on his shoe, but this time his effort went in front of the goal. Dylan Mbayo equalized after 22 minutes. Bilal Ould-Chikh found Lequincio Zeefuik and the attacker shot high over from a promising position.

Matthias Kohler made four substitutions at halftime on the Volendam side. One of those changes was Billy van Duijl. The young defender tried from a distance and shot full at the keeper. Kortrijk woke up with a fright and became dangerous via Mbayo. In contrast to the first half, this time he shot high over the goal.

FC Volendam then had two chances in quick succession. First Ezechiel Fiemawhle shot wide through a defender and Van Duijl headed just over from the corner kick. However, it was the Belgians who took the lead in the final phase. Massimo Bruno tapped the ball in at the first post: 2-1. Backhaus had a good save on a good shot from Dion de Neve. After a free kick by Achraf Douiri also went wide, it ended in 2-1.

In exactly one week Volendam will practice in-house against PAS Lamia. The kick-off is at 3.30 pm.
